9/5 Matthew 13

The parable of the sower is relevant both today and 2000 years ago.  How many people out there match the description of the seed sown along the path.  They don’t work very hard at understanding the message.  Then in the end they don’t get it. They fall right into Satan’s trap.  The end, game over.

Do I know anyone that receives it with joy and then later I find out that they don’t get involved in any small groups or ABFs.  They don’t spend time in God’s Word.  They don’t develop any deep knowledge or understanding.  Is this the worst situation to be in?

Or how about the one that is so caught up with life, so overwhelmed with this, that and the other thing.  The one that worries about tomorrow or tries keeping up with Jones.  Maybe this is the worst.

I pray that all fall into the last group.  The seed that fell on good soil.  But how can we tell if we are in this group?  Do we produce fruit?  Do we have a ministry that we involved in?  What are we doing for the Kingdom?

18“Listen then to what the parable of the sower means: 19When anyone hears the message about the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what was sown in his heart. This is the seed sown along the path. 20The one who received the seed that fell on rocky places is the man who hears the word and at once receives it with joy. 21But since he has no root, he lasts only a short time. When trouble or persecution comes because of the word, he quickly falls away. 22The one who received the seed that fell among the thorns is the man who hears the word, but the worries of this life and the deceitfulness of wealth choke it, making it unfruitful. 23But the one who received the seed that fell on good soil is the man who hears the word and understands it. He produces a crop, yielding a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown.”
