9/11 Matthew 27-28

While the whole trial and death of Jesus was difficult to read, I suppose it had to happen that way in order to fulfill prophecy.  It was still disturbing and very unjust.  However without Jesus doing what he did, there would be no salvation for us.  A great price was paid on our behalf, a price so high that we can never pay it ourselves.

After it was all said and done, they finally figured out who Jesus really was.  Well at least some of them did.

54When the centurion and those with him who were guarding Jesus saw the earthquake and all that had happened, they were terrified, and exclaimed, “Surely he was the Son of God!”

It must have been a very confusing time for these women.  To go to the tomb only to find it empty and to meet an angel who tells them what has happened and then to run into Jesus.

8So the women hurried away from the tomb, afraid yet filled with joy, and ran to tell his disciples. 9Suddenly Jesus met them. “Greetings,” he said. They came to him, clasped his feet and worshiped him. 10Then Jesus said to them, “Do not be afraid. Go and tell my brothers to go to Galilee; there they will see me.”

It is very interesting to me, that Jesus refers to his disciples as brothers.  Normally he would say tell my disciples to go to Galilee.  I’m just wondering now mind you, is this the point that he considered them sons of God.

Wow, finished with Matthew, off to the Gospel of Mark tomorrow.
