Created to Serve – Part 1

Exodus 31:1-6

September 16, 2009

This past Sunday at Northside we began a three week sermon series entitled, Off the Bench. If you saw the sermon logo (see our homepage), you would realize quickly that “bench” is “pew”. We desire for each of our people (you) to get off the pews and serve in God’s church. It was mentioned Sunday that our goal for every individual at Northside is to experience God in a 3 hour setting per week: 1 hour of worship (church), 1 hour of fellowship (small groups or ABF’s), and 1 hour of service. This series concerns the latter hour. Follow this link to continue reading

9/16 Mark 9-11

It is interesting in this day and age that so many people struggle to get to the top of whatever latter they are climbing.  Once that reach the top rung they stand and say look at me, I have reached the top.  They then proceed to doing everything in their new found power to fall all the way back down to the bottom.  This happens at the national level of our government down to the local level, also in our corporations, and in some cases even our churches.  Yet if they would just use the example that Jesus set out for them, they would know that humility and a attitude of service is the ticket to to the top.  The last will be first.

41When the ten heard about this, they became indignant with James and John. 42Jesus called them together and said, “You know that those who are regarded as rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their high officials exercise authority over them. 43Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, 44and whoever wants to be first must be slave of all. 45For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
