Called to Serve – Part 2

September 23, 2009

Do you know what kind of people hold my day up? Do you know what kind of people push the pause button on my schedule? The people that fail to answer their phones (which I’m guilty of), but never get back to me. I’ve offered a call to them, hoping for a response, and if I never hear back from them, I feel ignored.

Well guess what? God has called you to serve, and I wonder how many voice-mails He’s left on your heart to get off the pew and jump in the game of serving. God calls. We respond. You and I (all Christians) are called to the fullness of Christian life and to the perfection of charity, and this holiness is conducive to a more human way of living – even in society here on earth.

We are all called in various ways to share in Northside’s mission of announcing the reign of God and transforming the world in the light of Christ. Most do this by working in the secular realm; but all are called do this by working in the church. We want you to respond like Jonathan did in this past week’s sermon – be proactive.

Working in the church is a path of Christian discipleship to be encouraged, which is why we’ve pushed for you to get off the pew and into serving. Remember, our goal at Northside is to have each person involved in an hour of worship (church), an hour of fellowship (small groups), and an hour of serving. And the main thing that keeps all of this together, moving smoothly, is relationships.

Ministry is diverse and profoundly relational because ministry has its source in the triune God and because it takes shape within the community called church. Through coming to Northside, we are all established in a personal relationship with Christ and in a network of relationships within the people of God. The personal discipleship of each individual makes possible a community of disciples formed by and for the mission of Christ.

We’re not asking you to respond to God’s call of serving in the church because we want to fill an hour of your time. We encouraging you to respond to God’s call of serving because there are lost people who need to know Jesus.
