9/28 Luke 20-22

Many of the events in these chapters I have covered in previous posts, but the one I want to focus on today is Luke 22 31-32. This takes place at the last supper after Jesus teaches them about communion and what they are to do.  Jesus then makes this very sobering statement to Peter.

31″Simon, Simon, Satan has asked to sift you as wheat. 32But I have prayed for you, Simon, that your faith may not fail. And when you have turned back, strengthen your brothers.”

It is interesting that Satan asks Jesus first.  In the King James it says, “Satan hath desired to have you.”  One would think from this that Satan does not have all the power to do whatever he wishes.  That it must be allowed by God first.  Oh, and by the way all my footnotes refer to the word you as plural, meaning not just Peter but all the disciples.  A similar event takes place in Job chapter 1.
