Committed to Serve – Part 3

September 30, 2009

Let’s ask this question today – How committed do you think Jesus is to you? Is He kind of committed to you? Is He very committed to you? Extremely committed? Completely committed to you? Yes. Yes. And yes.

Now, how committed are you to Jesus’ church? Are you very committed? Extremely? Completely?

This past Sunday the sermon was on the life of Ruth. When the last pages of the Bible are written, God ends up using Ruth’s family to play an important role in the ancestry of Jesus. Also in Ruth, we see the parallel between her working in her master’s field (Boaz), and us working diligently in our Master’s field. Boaz redeems Ruth to be his bride and we can see the analogy here as well that we are the bride of Christ (Ephesians 5, Revelation 19:7).

This is truth, and is vital in the Bible, but I don’t want to over emphasis what happens in Ruth 4 to what happens in Ruth 1. There’s no Ruth 4 without Ruth 1, and the thrust of Ruth 1 is commitment. In Ruth 1, Naomi tells Ruth to return back home after both have been widowed. Ruth refuses to leave Naomi alone, stays with her in Naomi’s hometown and God ends up blessing Ruth profusely.

It’s a beautiful thing when the story of the Bible and the story of your life seem to come together. It’s apparent to me that if I have a commitment to the church like Ruth did to Naomi, or that Christ does to me, that God would bless my efforts profusely.

I guess it comes down to this: How committed are you to being Jesus to others? Kind of, very, extremely, or completely? We want you to know that you a part of a church that is completely committed to Christ, and that commitment doesn’t find itself on the bench of life. Go serve and watch God move.
