12/1 Hebrews 1-3

The writer starts the book of Hebrews with his theme of Jesus is greater than the angels.   Jesus is the heir of all things.   Jesus was with God when He created the universe and Jesus reflects the glory of God.  Jesus is greater that the angels for these reasons along plus he now sits at the right hand of God.

1In the past God spoke to our forefathers through the prophets at many times and in various ways, 2but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom he made the universe. 3The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven. 4So he became as much superior to the angels as the name he has inherited is superior to theirs.

In chapter 3 the theme is continued with Jesus is greater than Moses.  This would be a very weighty issue with the Hebrews of that time.  While Moses was declared faithful in God’s creation, Jesus is greater because he was with God during creation.

1Therefore, holy brothers, who share in the heavenly calling, fix your thoughts on Jesus, the apostle and high priest whom we confess. 2He was faithful to the one who appointed him, just as Moses was faithful in all God’s house. 3Jesus has been found worthy of greater honor than Moses, just as the builder of a house has greater honor than the house itself. 4For every house is built by someone, but God is the builder of everything. 5Moses was faithful as a servant in all God’s house, testifying to what would be said in the future. 6But Christ is faithful as a son over God’s house. And we are his house, if we hold on to our courage and the hope of which we boast.

  1. Jesus is definitely greater than Moses. In Numbers 12:6-8. God clearly spoke to Moses, no dreaming just the amazing voice of God, how cool is that. Now the validation of Jesus, we all know being God, but to those to understand that the Messiah that had been dreamed and visions in the Old Testament now completed.
So can anyone say that there is a better messenger than Christ, we have gone through profits(dreams and visions), Moses(the voice of God), onto Jesus(God’s voice).
The sad thing is that some of the dreams “profits” had were manipulated in the OT—see Jeremiah and how he struggled to rebuke the lack of true commitment to God. Even today some hear from God himself through His Son (the Bible) and there are still those that ignore the message that is being said.
